1.
It’s a story of bones The man said From the cradle to the grave And the stories of the saved, he said. It’s carried down the river on song You’re not the only one It’s a story of blood and sweat and tears She said A case of holding up an army Against the million voices raging in your head And it’s carried down the river on song You’re not the only one Ballad of Bones Are you not alone? Don’t let inertia win, keep moving Keep moving It’s a story of light He said Blazing eyes and rousing voice Carrying these bones made of lead And it’s carried down the river on song You’re not the only one It’s a case of time She said Not enough in all your life to free the day And find a way It’s carried down the river on song You’re not the only one Ballad of bones Are you not alone? Don’t let inertia win, keep moving Keep moving Rage, rage, rage, rage against the dying of the light!
2.
The hour is darkest before the dawn The world is the oldest when the black eyed dog it calls around So take my hand thorough the sinking sand And pull us out when our philosophy hits the ground Sinking sand, take my hand Through the sinking sand There someday we’ll find our way To the other world How does it feel like to be dead inside? How does it feel to have your world denied? So all that you are, give it away Cause you’re nothing like that anyway So ego and self, falling away Cause it’s the dawn again today. Sinking sand, take my hand Through the sinking sand There someday we’ll find our way Sinking sand, take my hand Through the sinking sand There someday we’ll find our way To the other world
3.
Always giving the Crucifix Kiss Just say the word and you’ll catch me from my fall I deserve it from you now and always As much as all the times before Keep your eyes open in perfect perspective I’ll save you I’ll let you down You’ll let me down I’ll let you down You’ll let me down How can we see behind each other’s faces When we’ve already all lost our graces now?
4.
You look on me, you’re too blind to see The shape of your insecurity Taking cover in your scapegoat You should know by now What comes around goes around Still tripping over the same old hits of power What have we found? Still a world of fear What will it take this passive victim to show you? You’re getting nowhere in the end With this animosity you’re giving me You should know by now What comes around goes around Still tripping over the same old hits of power What have we found? Still a world of fear

about

North-East punk-folk outfit Driven Serious' latest release, Ballad of Bones, follows up their 2013 album The Importance of Being Serious and showcases new fifth member, cellist and vocalist Katie Hall. Its five meticulously-crafted minutes of drive, emotion and musicianship have made it a live favourite, and it now sees a studio release, alongside three tracks recorded live at headlining shows at Newcastle's Cluny and Middlesbrough's Twisted Lip.
